Schooling in 2020, Tips + Tricks

2020 has been interesting, to say the least. We’ve all grown in so many ways and experienced history in the making. As we transition out of summertime and into school season, we want to share our top tips on how to tackle and prep for yet another new concept: school in 2020.

Before we jump in, here’s a reminder: you are doing an incredible job. We’re all new at this, and whatever decisions you’ve made so far have been the right ones. Be patient with yourself and your kiddos. You are resilient and you will persevere.

Blue-blocking screens are your friend

Light is a complicated topic. From sunlight to your lightbulbs and yes, your iPhone, everything has a range of effects on your vision. We’re going to focus on blue light for a second. At the end of a long laptop day or if you’ve been scrolling through IG, you may notice that your eyes are strained. It’s been said that one of the culprits of vision fatigue is blue light that’s being emitted off your devices. If you feel it, your kiddos will too and that’s why arming yourself with a pair of blue blocking glasses is a good idea. As we park kids in front of laptops for Zoom lessons, they may not love the idea of having to wear glasses. Instead, add a blue blocking screen over their monitor. You’ll reduce their exposure and limit their chances of eye fatigue.

Essentials oils for acupressure

Whether you’re feeling stressed from this heavy year or you’re focused on building immunity, here are our favorite essential oils to combat anxiety and immunity:

  • Lavender: First and foremost, for calming the nervous system

  • Sandalwood: Not only does it smell delicious, it’s fantastic for anxiety relief.

  • Melaleuca/Tea Tree: This oil is a game changer when used as hand sanitizer so be sure to keep a roller of this in your purse or car. If you decide to take this internally, it’s also a wonderful immune booster but check to make sure it’s safe to consume.

  • Thyme: This is a top option for diffusing throughout the house. Although it’s a little strong to use topically, it’s a stand out oil for preventing respiratory infections and coughs. Massage a little on ST36 (four finger widths down from the bottom of your knee cap) and indulge in the benefits.

  • Spearmint/Peppermint: Rub this one on shoulders for tension relief. Bonus: it opens up the sinuses and smells lovely.

Herbs & supplements for cold and flu season

For everyday protection: Find some probiotics, gummy vitamins, vitamin c and echinacea.

For cold and flu season + fevers: First Defense and Yin Chiao Jr. tincture. Belladonna when a fever strikes.

For coughs: Source Naturals Cough syrup when lungs are hit with a cough.

There you have it, friends. Sending you love and solidarity through these times. If you have any questions on any of these items, send us a message at hello@magnoliawellnessoc.com.
